The river cleanup was a great success! That river looks a lot cleaner now, especially close to town. It has been very moving to see many others showing concern and care for this beautiful environment and hope through Hopefest! Photos and more on our Facebbook page.
To raise consciousness in harmony and foster hope compassionately: May our actions set our spirits free. Hope is in our hands, you see.
The time has come to launch "The Higher Hopes Alliance". It will be largely inspired by Peacefest and Rainbow Gatherings, but also inspired directly by you. The purpose of this movement will be to inspire and engender HOPE in anyway we can. Thus we will take on such projects as river and beach cleanups, tree planting, charity service, etc. The sky is the limit. If you have an idea that may foster hope, please let us know.
The Sanjhan (三棧) twin river canyons are the main reason I moved back to Hualien. San Jhan has been my Shangri-La in Taiwan for all these years. But I rarely go up the south river anymore. It's too painful for me to walk through so much trash. For some reason some people think that it's OK to just throw their garbage alongside the otherwise pristine river. If I do go up the river, I will undoubtedly come back down with four extra large full garbage bags dangling from bamboo. I cannot bear just doing nothing about it. We can make a big difference.
Hopefest will be a charity festival like Peacefest. We hope to invite representatives from charities that we trust (especially locally), in that they are transparent and use a very low percent of received donations for administration. There will also be a sharing shack set up, where people can share things they have but don't need, and where people can take what they like without even asking. There will be no stage at Hopefest. Instead there will be a big circle. The idea is to remove the separation between performers and audience. We aim for a relaxed interactive atmosphere. We will be blessed with the musical resonance of Kimbo 胡德夫 and many others!
Hopefest will be money-free. It won't be the place to come to make money, but instead a place to share and trade whatever it is you have to offer. This is about developing a sense of conscious community. Hopefest will be a potluck, as will the river cleanup. So please bring whatever vegetarian food you can, so everyone can share, (and eat whatever you want of course). We are always open to more ideas, so please share them and join us in the name of HOPE.
Our gracious and ever hopeful helpful friend A Guei has offered his beach side villa resort as free lodging for all that can fit. Hopefest will be on the beach only a few minutes walk away.
